Reverse Osmosis (RO) is a modern high-tech separation process that has seen significant development and adoption in China. It works by applying pressure greater than the natural osmotic pressure to force water molecules through a specialized semi-permeable membrane, leaving dissolved salts and other impurities behind. This principle allows RO to achieve separation, extraction, purification, and concentration for various substances based on their differing osmotic pressures. The technology is highly versatile, with key applications including water for the electronics, pharmaceutical, and chemical industries; boiler feed water for power generation; desalination of seawater and brackish water; production of purified drinking water; and process water for industries such as automotive and appliance painting, coated glass, fine chemicals, and cosmetics. Furthermore, RO systems capable of 98% desalination, such as those using stainless steel components to purify well water, are also effectively employed in the food industry for producing purified water used in beverages, beer, alcoholic spirits, and health products.
